I20
sailors are well known for their colorful boats and spinnakers but look at
the creativity that came out at the Nationals Pirate party Saturday
night! This place looked like Tortuga! Click
here to see Keith Kreps' chronicle of the event.

A-Scow sailor and sea plane pilot Jeff Russell strapped in
photographer Tim Stanton and gave us a whole new angle on I 20 racing from
a few thousand feet. These great photos are low resolution versions that
Tim took from Jeff's seaplane. They are way too cool and you can see them
in
Tim's online photo gallery. Thank you, Jeff, for taking on this aerial
photography mission!

Pirate Costume Party Great Success
Thanks to
Quantum Inland Sails for sponsoring the costume contest at I 20
Nationals. Free registration was on the line and the sailors took this as
seriously as the regatta because at least fifty people in great costumes
showed their stuff. The Marquardt family and crew of four hiking took top
honors as decided by a panel of judges. Anne Gratton made all her family's
outfits and we had pirates everywhere. Thank you to Ellen and Peter
Johnson for opening their house for this memorable event. Great food,
location, drink, and people made for an unforgettable event. More pictures
will follow as they are collected. If you have some good ones pass them
on!
Here is a very good account of the 2006 Nationals written by Zack
Clayton for Destination One Design.

Tim
Stanton's I20 National Regatta photos are on-line and are great! You
can view
them here and buy them right on the site. We will have more photos
coming from Brian Louther soon and the
final scores are posted! Stay tuned for a Nationals wrap-up in the
next few days.

I20 Junior Nationals Report
|

Junior Skipper Steven Catlin & his dad, Geoff,
winner of the first-ever I20 Junior Nationals. |
|
 |
The I 20 nationals are off to a great start. This
year's regatta is the biggest we've ever had and the first ever I 20
Junior Nationals regatta for skippers under eighteen. The Junior Nationals
attracted some great young sailors under eighteen with an average age of
about fourteen sailing in most cases with their parents as crew.
It's a great chance for the kids to call the shots. Steven Catlin sailing
with his dad, Geoff, had to listen to his crew a lot, but he sailed to a
strong victory with three wins out of four races. The Senior Fleet got in
two races on Friday in near perfect conditions.

photos and results.
